MAHIKENG LOCAL MUNICIPALITY UNDERTAKES SITE VISIT TO SOUTH AFRICAN BUREAU OF STANDARDS (SABS) WATER LABORATORY

The Mahikeng Local Municipality (MLM) undertook a strategic site visit to the South African Bureau of Standards (SABS) at its Groenkloof Campus in Pretoria, specifically to the SABS Water Laboratory.

The visit, held at the Mzansi Committee Room, 3rd Floor SABS Groenkloof Campus from 11:00 to 14:00, was aimed at providing the Municipality with an in-depth understanding of the capabilities and services offered by the SABS Water Laboratory.

The objectives of the visit included understanding water quality testing and analysis processes, applicable South African and international standards, product testing and conformity assessment requirements, and how SABS laboratory services can support municipal water quality management and infrastructure projects.

The programme included a presentation on the purpose of the visit by the Divisional Head of Laboratory and Technical Lead: Food & Health, followed by an update on the status of the Implementation Plan between SABS and MLM. The delegation also undertook a guided tour of the Water Laboratory, which included sample reception and registration, sample preparation, testing and analytical areas, laboratory equipment and instrumentation, quality control procedures, data recording and reporting, as well as health, safety and environmental requirements.

This engagement forms part of Mahikeng Local Municipality’s commitment to strengthening water quality management, ensuring compliance with SANS standards, and improving service delivery to communities through credible, scientifically verified water testing.

The Municipality appreciates the technical expertise and support offered by SABS and looks forward to strengthening this collaboration in the interest of providing safe and quality water to the people of Mahikeng.
