MLM Elects New Speaker
Councillor T. Nebe is the new Speaker of Mahikeng Local Municipality. He was elected on 15 November 2017 in the Municipal Council Chamber during a Council sitting. The election of the new Speaker is a result of the untimely passing of the late Speaker Cllr Pontsho Tabane. The election of Cllr Nebe as the Speaker was done in accordance with Section 36(1) of the Municipal Structures Act no 117 of 1998 as amended.
The new Speaker is not new to the Municipality, during the previous administration he served as the Chief Whip of the majority party, the African National Congress (ANC) and the single Whip of Council. He was recently the Chairperson of Municipal Public
Accounts Committee (MPAC). He was subsequently seconded to Ngaka Modiri Molema District Municipality where he was appointed a Member of the Mayoral Committee for Community Services.
“I am hopeful that we will pull together as a team and work towards making Mahikeng Local Municipality one of the best in the country” said Cllr Nebe during his acceptance speech.
He further reminded all that 2017 has been declared the ‘year of Oliver Reginald Tambo’ and therefore all of us must roll up our sleeves to push back the frontiers of poverty in celebration this stalwart.
