Mahikeng Local Municipality made history the Executive Mayor, Cllr Lenah Miga, was joined by Kgosikgolo Jeff Montshioa in the unveiling of the Mahikeng Plaque. The unveiling, which took place on the 14th September 2012 at the Mahikeng Museum, was attended by the South African Navy, Councillors, Municipal Officials, Kgosi Montshioa and the Executive Mayor.

The Single Whip of Mahikeng Local Municipality, Cllr Mafethe, said during this exclusive name change ceremony that “We are here to put in place a name that has been around for more than 130 years. We are not using a new name, we are simply going back to the original name we had before the settlers came and changed it”. The Executive Mayor, Cllr Lenah Miga, said that it is not by mistake that the municipality supports Bogosi in this name change, but it is because the municipality does acknowledge that indeed this place is named Mahikeng, a name that was forcefully taken away from its people.
