Local and District Municipalities inaugurate new Mayors
This also follows the overwhelming win by the African National Congress (ANC) in the recent district by-elections. New Councillors were also installed to replace the disgruntled council of the previous administration. The Mahikeng Local Municipality also experienced a change in leadership in the same breath in recent weeks with the appointment of Councillor Gosiame Seatlholo as new Executive Mayor. Both Mayors were officially inaugurated last Friday at the Borolong Boo Ratshidi Hall in a dual inauguration ceremony.
Following the Setsokotsane programme headed by Bokone Bophirima Premier, Supra Ramoeletsi Mahumapelo, the two mayors swore to deliver services to the people without fail and calling for unity among stakeholders to achieve those goals. The inauguration was attended by dignitaries from local municipalities as well as councillors, administrators of NMMDM and Interfaith religious leaders.
MEC for Local Govemment and Human Settlements, Collen Maine also reiterated that they would work hand in glove with the municipalities to raise the standards of governance and ensure that they delivered services. The proceedings were opened by Kgosi Jeff Montshioa with Premier Mahumapelo giving the keynote address.
In his address Mahumapelo stressed the need to pull together behind the Saamtrek-Saamwerk philosophy to be able to achieve the service delivery goals of the province. He called for true leadership from the incumbents, that they should at all times be with the people, remain disciplined and follow the mandate as set by the African National Congress lead Government. The occasion was a feast with local performers and groups, who kept the audience entertained during proceedings.
