During the handover over of 100 food parcels to poverty stricken household earlier at Slurry- Matsatseng Village, the MEC Basetsana Sussana Dantjie for Department of Social Development accompanied by The Executive Mayor of Mahikeng Local Municipality and the Ward 09 Cllr Gopolang Maruping, highlighted the importance of community members in partaking in the fight againts gender based violence and femicide.
Dantjie encouraged parents to instill good morals on their children as one of the ways to curb the high rate of gender based violence, substance abuse, crime peer pressure and promoting the importance of education.
Futhermore Dantjie emphasized that through the initiative dubbed “Re thuse, Re go thuse”, the deparment is committed to work closely with community members in ensuring development and rooting out social ills, hunger and poverty in various communities.
