Mmabana hands over books to Mahikeng Libraries
Mahikeng Local Municipality libraries were handed over 1200 books by the Mmabana Foundation, which were given to them by Molteno Institute for Language and Literacy. Molteno, an NGO that develops communities in Africa which develops learning material and provides training to teachers, awarded in partnership with the Mmabana Foundation as they felt that libraries are the perfect place for children to assess books.
“We encourage children to learn and more so, in their mother tongue, but we cannot encourage our society to read without giving them books and reading material hence the importance of this handover” said Mr Masenya Dikotla.
Mr Mogwe, Head of Community Services, assured the Mmabana and Molteno officials that the books will not go to any waste and will be shared amongst the six libraries within our jurisdiction. He said he is honoured to accept the books on behalf of the municipality and that he hopes they will educate many of the future leaders we have in the community. He also urged Molteno to continue doing their exceptional work in educating the nation and that he hopes this partnership will not end here.
“We are currently experiencing a problem where technology has taken over and our children do not read anymore and prefer to be on their phones and laptops rather than read a book and we hope to change that in the near future. This is not the end of donations such as these, we will in future identify communities that can also benefit from these books” said Ms Phumla Mpahlwa, Director of Performing Arts at Mmabana.
