MLM Implements Setsokotsane 10 by 10 in Ward 24
Mahikeng Local Municipality implemented a successful Setsokotsane 10 by 10 campaign for October 2017 in Ward 24. The campaign was implemented from the 10th– 23th October 2017 as per mandate of the North West Provincial Government that states that 10 days must be set aside every month to roll out Setsokotsane 10 by 10 campaigns. Villages falling under ward 24 Uitkyk, Goedgevonden, Mooifontein, Lombaardslaagte and Enselsrust were visited during the campaign. The purpose of was to bring municipal services closer to the people and to improve the quality of lives of the ordinary people through these campaigns.
The following campaigns were implemented, namely healthy living lifestyle at Lombardslaagte where Mahikeng Local Municipality partnered with the provincial Department of Health. The elderly benefitted from body mass weighing, various tests conducted like sugar diabetes. Physical exercises were also part of the day’s programme.
For Road Fixing and Streetlights campaign, high-mast lights were reassessed at Uitkyk, Goedgevonden, Mooifontein, Lombaardslaagte, and Enselsrust. Proper maintenance was done and all of them were left functioning. Gravel roads were graded at Lombardslaagte.
For Payments of Rates and Taxes campaign, the municipality distributed pamphlets at strategic road junctions in Unit 7, Nelson Mandela road opposite Sasol, and at the junction in Unit 6 opposite Sol Plaatjie Secondary which informed the community members about an incentive scheme. More than 11000 short message services were sent to consumers about the incentive scheme.
Furthermore, the municipality visited A.R Kobue High School at Mooifontein, where 450 learners were in attendance. Pregnancy awareness and library services awareness issues were as part of the education involvement and activities campaign.
Crime and Corruption campaign was carried in the Mahikeng Central Business District. Illegal structures were removed and five undocumented foreign Nationals were taken to Mahikeng Police Station to be processed by Home Affairs Immigration. Two Foreign Nationals were apprehended distributing illegal advertising material at Nelson Mandela Road. A stolen vehicle was recovered in Golf view.
The RHR and Saam Werk Saamtrek campaign was carried out in Engselsrus. Traditional Leaders, Faith Based Organisations and community members were taught about the role of RHR Office in the municipality, its objectives and the rationale of RHR.
The last campaign was Human Settlement and Water Sanitation Control Boxes were repaired. All were inspected and two stuck generators were collected for repairs. Survey forms were completed in Lombardslaagte with the intention to check the demand for RDP Houses. The intention is for the municipality to communicate with the Department of Human Settlement for budget allocation for the area’s 2018/19 financial year.
