Mahikeng Local Municipality to host SAIMSA

The Mahikeng Local Municipality is proud to announce to the people of Ngaka Modiri Molema that the capital city of Bokone Bophirima has won the bid to host the 2016 Southern African Intermunicipal Games (SAIMSA). The SAIMSA Games includes SADC countries such as Namibia, Swaziland, Lesotho, Botswana, Zambia, Mozambique and South Africa to mentioned but a few.

 

The SAIMSA games are aimed at encouraging unity and cohesion of the people of the sub-continent (SADC). The SAIMSA games are also meant to facilitate the free movement of people in SADC and to foster regional integration through sports and people to people relations. The arrival of the SAIMSA torch in Mahikeng last week Sunday from Lesotho led by the Executive Mayor of Mahikeng marked a historic moment and officially pronounced that Mahikeng was the official host of 2016 SAIMSA Games.

 

The obvious spin offs of the SAIMSA Games are economic boost for the local economy, the marketing of Mahikeng tourism sector and the international profiling of the capital city. The hosting of SAIMSA Games in Mahikeng is also in line with the vision of rebranding, repositioning and renewing Mahikeng as a capital city. The SAIMSA Games are also in line with the provincial government economic strategy that comprises with three elements of Agriculture, Culture and Tourism. Different stakeholders in the value chain of tourism are expected to benefit from the hosting of the SAIMSA Games. Business such as hotels, guest houses, Bed and Breakfast are expected to benefit. The hospitality industry is also expected to benefit as the visitors will have to be fed and accommodated.

 

Areas such as Ditsobotla and Zeerust are also expected to benefit from the hosting of SAIMSA Games. These mentioned areas will also be expected to assist with the overflowing in terms of accommodation and other related services.
