Finally, A Roof Over Mme Sello’s Head

Finally, A Roof Over Mme Sello’s Head

Mahikeng Local Municipality handed over a RDP house last week to Mme Ontefetse Sello in Lonely Park in the spirit of Mandela Month. Mme Sello had been struggling to be approved for a house for some time and reached out to the Executive Mayor, Cllr Betty Diakanyo for help.

“The municipality does not have the authority and capacity to provide housing, however we take details of those in need, through the ward councillors and submit them to the Department of Local Government & Human Settlements. The department will then decide how they will assist the municipality provided there is also sufficient budget for a housing project. This is a lengthy process and that is the reason why it may take a while before a beneficiary is allocated with a house” said the Executive Mayor of Mahikeng Local Municipality.

To make Mme Sello’s day even more meaningful, MLM joined hands with Tlou Attorneys who contributed groceries, beds and bedding for the house while CTM tiled the entire house at their own cost. Mr Borg Mpipi from Tlou Attorneys said that the firm saw it fit to partner with the municipality and contribute what they can to ensure that Mme Sello receives what she deserves as an elderly person. He further mentioned their doors are always open for her in the event that she may need assistance with anything.

Mme Sello, 81 years old, said that she was very happy and satisfied with all the goodies that came with her new home. “I am thankful to the municipality, the Department of Local Government & Human Settlements, CTM and Tlou Attorneys for their wonderful contribution and wish that it does not stop with me and that they will continue to show this contribution to many others” she said.
